I have followed Fr. Felix’s case with a lot of intrest and I must confess that the way it was dealt with left a lot to be desired. The whole problem was a cultural problem not child abuse as it is reported. Fr. Felix visited family friends. He was offered beer which he took and then saw an eleven year girl of the family crying. He tried to console the girl as it is often done in his home country Kenya but this was interpreted as “improper touching” and then later “sexual abuse.” Truth will set us free.
Yes. He did not set her up in predator fashion. His sentence seems light, which supports his being seen as a lesser threat, it seems. He was stopped immediately when the child (apparently) shot out of the room. We rightly do not wish to minimize the shock to the child, but Fr. O. has not fit the profile, to judge by news accounts, and this cultural-shift explanation has the ring at least of plausibility.
